A place to be yourself.
PHILOSOPHY
At Oconto our philosophy is to help each individual grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a safe and happy environment under the leadership of mature staff. Bright, happy, and confident, the young girls of today become the strong leaders of tomorrow. Set along the beautiful and clan waters of Eagle Lake, Camp Oconto is where fun and friendship come together in a spirit of adventure. The Land O' Lakes region is full of rolling hills, forests, fields, marshes, and of course lakes. It is the perfect setting to explore nature and discover yourself. Camp Oconto is the place where lasting memories are made and enduring friendships begin.
A Place for Spirit
Camp Oconto is rich in history and traditions. A preferred girls' summer camp for over 80 years, Oconto inspires loyalty. Just ask our enthusiastic and active alumnae. Every summer young girls come to Oconto and form lasting allegiances. The girls of Oconto are proud of their camp and are unified by the positive camp spirit we encourage.
Camp Oconto is non denominational and creates an environment that accepts and appreciates diversity. Most of our campers are from central Ontario, although girls come from all parts of Canada and the world. Our dining hall is decorating with the flags of a wide variety of countries - like Japan, Australia, parts of Europe, United Arab Emirates, and Turkey - all places from which our campers come. Each Sunday, campers gather in the chapel for self-reflection and to consider our relationships with nature and each other. For those who wish to attend formal services, we offer transportation to a Roman Catholic Mass nearby.
A Place for Fun & Games
Camp Oconto is all about having fun. From swimming to horseback riding, from drama to canoeing, the days at Camp Oconto are never boring. Campers will learn new ways to be active and have a blast doing it. Our counsellors are qualified and experienced in a variety of areas, and work together to provide a fun and enriching experience.
A Place for Adventures
All Oconto campers develop a taste for adventure. Camp Oconto offers age appropriate activities that challenge and excite. For girls 11 and older, overnight canoe trips, with starry nights and campfires, bring out the spirit of exploration and reveal the value of team-work. The younger girls have just as much fun as they venture out into nature for shorter periods of time. Oconto campers can go hiking, learn archery and windsurfing, and for those with the proven skills, we even offer white-water canoeing and kayaking. All activities are led by our qualified and supportive staff, who make your child's safety the first consideration in any adventure.
A Place for Memories
Friendships come fast and last long at Camp Oconto. Each girl is teamed with three, occasionally four, other campers and a counsellor. The closeness of this small group encourages a powerful bond. There is also plenty of time to get to know the other girls at Oconto. Through activities, at meals, during free time, free swims, and the games at night, the girls of Oconto get to know, admire, and care about each other. For these reasons, Camp Oconto is a place girls return to year after year. It is a place of experiences and memories that last a lifetime.
A Place to Grow
While Camp Oconto feels like all-day recess, young girls learn skills that will last a lifetime. Away from home, sometimes for the very first time, at Camp Oconto young girls have the opportunity to make decisions, to gain meaningful experiences, and to make new friends within a new peer group. Living in nature as they do, they develop self confidence and a spirited character. Living with others, they learn respect for differences and respect for themselves.
